Who is Gerald Brownrigg Spray?
Gerald Spray is an aspiring developer on the autism spectrum. He is related to Bernadette Brownrigg Spray, another autistic adult
with big aspirations (in her case, jazz singing). Born and raised in the Twin Cities, he has several Swing applications. One of these is
a program that narrows down a list of movies in a SQL database, given the user's desired era, runtime, genre, rating, etc. Another uses a SQL
database to fetch movie statistics for a cinema simulator. Finally, his lifelong love of comic books drove him to the Batproject, which
maps Batman character relationships on a GraphStream, and fetches information about the characters in several universes. The source code
can be found in his GitLab repository. He graduated Augsburg University in 2025 with a double B.A. in Computer Science and Creative Writing, and is
pursuing a Master's of Science in Software Engineering at the University of St. Thomas. He has a movie review website whose link can be found in the footer.
The Elephant in the Room
Software development is a rapidly changing field in the age of AI, with memorization of code becoming less important in favor of
understanding structures. Gerald Spray is currently adapting to this shift by pursuing a certificate in Cloud Architecture from Amazon
Web Services. As a person on the spectrum, his attention to detail provides a different output than the algorithmic AI responses -
the movie recommendation app consists of over 600 hand-picked titles in SQL! This level of dedication to craft is why he would make a
good asset.
